ULTRASONIC CLEANING
Ultrasonic cleaning dental instruments
Ultrasonic cleaners are one of the easiest means to remove impurities from reusable instruments in dental clinics.
Ultrasonic energy creates billions miniature bubbles in tank of the ultrasonic cleaners that implode with great force separating impurities from surface of the item you want to clean. Bubbles formed in cavitation process are capable of reaching into small cracks and fissures. They are practically mining dirt away from the surface in a more efficient manner than with manual scrubbing. Scrubbing has additional disadvantage that it requires staff to handle contaminated instruments.
Only after a thorough ultrasonic cleaning, disinfection and sterilization should be preformed. This order is important, because sterilized items can become contaminated in ultrasonic bath. Cleaner might contain blood, tissue or other impurities from previous use.
Example of cleaning procedures for dental instruments
Smaller ultrasonic cleaners, like ASonic HOME 1400, PRO-08 which are available through our brand ASonic, are ideal for dental clinics. They are used for cleaning instruments like the needles, mirrors, blades, burs, etc., also crowns and dentures. This model of ultrasonic cleaner is also good for removal of cement, filler or sealant. Instruments can be kept soaked in germicides or enzymatic solution to avoid drying of impurities on their surface after use. This considerably simplifies later cleaning.
Use ultrasonic cleaning concentrate formulated for removal of organic impurities. Although one might think that the solution for disinfection would be the right choice, it’s actually not, because it can make the impurities such as proteins harder to remove. Instead, use a solution of the appropriate concentrate for ultrasonic cleaners prepared according to the directions on the package. The items that you want to clean should be put in cleaning basket. Put basket into the tank so that all the instruments are fully submerged. Cleaning time (typically for 7 to 10 minutes depending on the quantity of instruments) and the temperature are adjustable via the control panel.
When the cleaning cycle is over, rinse instruments with water to remove any residues of cleaning liquid, and then go on with disinfection and sterilization. The solution for ultrasonic cleaners needs changing at least once a day, and ultrasonic cleaner tank requires cleaning and drying before next use. Be sure to follow instructions for the use of ultrasonic cleaners and concentrates provided by the manufacturer.
